  • School of Architecture

    Students with or without design or architecture course history are welcome to apply. You should have a 3.0 or better college grade point average in order to be considered for admission.

    Students requesting Advanced Standing in the design sequence must submit a portfolio. Architecture portfolios must be submitted at the same as the Common Application.  

    Undergraduate transfer students admitted into the Third-Year Design sequence are required to attend a Summer/Fall integration design module.

    The College of Arts and Sciences offers four degree programs: Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Liberal Arts (BLA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA).

    General education requirements vary by degree program: 

    English Composition I & II (ALL) 6 credits
    Calculus I, Calculus II, and Computer Programming I or Statistics (BS) 9 credits
    Modern Language (BA/BS)
    200-level or higher in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish, Classics (Latin and Greek), or American Sign Language
    3 credits
    Natural Science (BA/BS)
    Biology, Chemistry, Geological Sciences, Marine Sciences Physical Science, or Physics
    3 credits

    Cognates:

    A cognate is a group of at least three courses, for at least nine credit hours, that share a theme or focus. A cognate may center on a discipline, a problem, a topic, a region, a method, a time period, or another language. Students must complete one cognate in each area of knowledge listed below and offerings can be found at cognates.miami.edu.

  • Miami Herbert Business School

    The Miami Herbert Business School requires entering students to have a strong mathematical background prior to entering UM. All transfer applicants must have completed and earned a grade of B or higher in a calculus course equivalent to MTH-161. In the Florida college and university system, the equivalent math course is MAC 2311.     Note, only one Cognate (3 area courses) from those listed can transfer.

    School of Communication students must complete the requirement of a minor inside or outside the school. Students who choose to pursue a second major are exempt from completing the minor. These options allow students to focus their interests within the field of communication while providing greater flexibility in creating a curriculum that matches their career goals.     With the exception of English Composition I & II, there are no credits unilaterally accepted by all programs in the Frost School of Music. Each program has certain courses for which students may receive credit.
